GuiltThe weight of the things that Sam carries with him is immense. Mary and Jessica’s deaths, Dean’s time in Hell, his addiction to demon blood, the apocalypse, his time without a soul… the list goes on and on. But I think his guilt was truly born with Azazel—with the infection of his blood.
Bad Sam. Demon Sam. Dark Sam whose name was known in Heaven and in Hell; whose own right hand was destined to destroy the world as Lucifer’s vessel. Sam cannot atone for who he is. He cannot bleed enough, suffer enough, or die enough to make up for the fact that before he could ever speak, he was marked for evil.
Sam cannot slip. He cannot give himself over to that darkness for even a moment for fear of losing himself entirely. And when he does? When Sam is human, when he makes a mistake? He must be punished.
It is a consuming, driving force that sometimes blinds him to the truth—that he is good. That no matter what flaws he may have, right through to the very core of him, Sam is good.
